Our mission is to instill a great love of belly dance, while inspiring self-confidence, discipline and respect of the art and its cultural connections to the Middle East. Our goal is to give each individual dancer the tools they need to take belly dance as far as they dream to take it... We believe if you can dream it you can achieve it!

Our Emphasis: Hip Motions has a reputation of excellence; Proper technique and terminology is taught at every level. There are many life skills that can be learned through dance. Our teachers focus on more than just the physical.

Be Fit: Physical fitness is something everyone benefits from. You will love being active with Belly Dance and it produces benefits that last a lifetime, including stronger muscles and bones, lower likelihood of becoming overweight, increased coordination, flexibility, strength, balance, and better posture.

Be Smart: Memorizing choreography, becoming body aware, and executing complex movements is an excellent exercise for the brain. Dance also teaches skills that help in many aspects of life including: increased focus, greater ability to listen to and follow directions, practice overcoming challenges, and greater ability to express emotion. Dance also helps develop rhythm, coordination, music and cultural appreciation.

Be Confident: Our primary objective is to strengthen self-esteem while helping develop talent in dancers. Our programs foster a can-do attitude. As you take on and overcome challenges, you believe more and more in your ability to be brave at being bad at something new!  

Our Teaching Philosophy

Hip Motions was founded by our prestigious and nationally recognized teacher, Nadirah Johara. Nadirah Johara has carefully selected a teaching faculty with certification in extensive teacher training as well as professional dancing and teaching experience. While each instructor has his or her own distinctive style and strengths, at Hip Motions every instructor will share a common syllabus to ensure a comprehensive and thoughtful approach to belly dance education. We are committed to help you learn how to dance, connect with our supportive community, get in touch with your feminine side, and achieve your goals! Nadirah Johara strongly believes the study of physical anatomy, folkloric roots, and cultural awareness is a fundamental part of all belly dance students (beginner though instructor) knowledge base. She and her staff regularly attend teacher courses to continuously refine and improve their teaching knowledge as everyone is a perpetual student; continuously growing, continuously improving. Under her directorship, her staff works together to follow a carefully planned syllabus in such a way that is appropriate for all body types. Each student has different natural abilities, but Hip Motions as a whole focuses on individual improvement according to each student’s physical ability and learning style.

Hip Motions vision is to inspire our community with non-competitive belly dance education and offer many performance and learning opportunities in a capacity that will motivate, educate, and develop an appreciation of the dances of the Middle East.  Where belly dancing dreams are shared and experienced throughout our community.  It is through our mission and vision that Hip Motions will establish a strong foundation for our future dancers.  We strive for excellence and accept only positive thinking.

HIP MOTIONS FOUNDER, OWNER & ARTISTIC VISIONARY

Everyone has to start something new somewhere and I was once a belly dance beginner too. While in college, my girlfriends and I decided to take a class, and I was instantly hooked. I've spent over 20 years training with frequent trips to Middle eastern countries such as Egypt & Lebanon to deepen my knowledge and experience of the societal and cultural links to Raks Sharqi (Belly Dance). I've trained under the best instructors in the world and I'm certified in Hadia’s Belly Dance Teacher Training , Keti Sharif’s A-Z Belly Dance and Sahra Saeeda’s Journey Through Egypt . I've now been teaching and performing for over 20 years. As an Aerospace Engineer by day, I understand the delicate balance of the necessity of everyday life and the importance of making time for you. 

Belly Dance has changed my life in many profound ways since my start over 20 years ago. Since then it's provided me many benefits including better self-esteem, hope, pride, purpose, everlasting friendships, cultural appreciation, and strength, just to name a few. I am eternally grateful everyday for the opportunity to share my passion and knowledge for this dance form with people from all walks of life.
